Denominational and Local Church Relations Policy

Replum Seminary affirms the centrality of the local church in the life, calling, and formation of every Christian minister. The Seminary exists to serve the Church, not to replace it. This policy governs how students of Replum Seminary serve within local churches of various Christian denominations while enrolled.

1. Foundational Commitments

Replum Seminary is rooted in historic, orthodox Protestant Christianity and maintains its own doctrinal commitments as articulated in its Statement of Faith.

At the same time, the Seminary recognizes that faithful Christian students may serve within local churches representing a range of evangelical Protestant traditions. Replum Seminary seeks to cultivate theological clarity, ecclesial respect, and pastoral integrity in all such settings.

2. Primary Allegiance to the Local Church

Students who are active members or servants within a local church remain under the spiritual authority and pastoral oversight of that church.

Replum Seminary does not supersede, override, or interfere with the governance, discipline, or doctrinal authority of a student’s local congregation.

Students are expected to:

• Maintain active involvement in a local church while enrolled, unless providentially hindered

• Serve faithfully under the leadership of their pastor or church elders

• Communicate openly with church leadership regarding their enrollment at Replum Seminary

3. Denominational Diversity and Theological Integrity

Replum Seminary welcomes students from various evangelical Protestant denominations, provided they are able to affirm the Seminary’s Statement of Faith without reservation or deception.

Students may retain denominational distinctives in areas such as:

• Church polity

• Sacramental theology

• Eschatological views

• Non-essential secondary doctrines

Students must not:

• Undermine or contradict the core doctrinal commitments of Replum Seminary

• Misrepresent the Seminary’s theological positions when serving in churches

• Promote sectarian division or theological hostility within church contexts

4. Conduct While Serving in Local Churches

When serving in a local church, whether in paid or volunteer roles, students represent both their personal Christian witness and, by association, Replum Seminary.

Students are expected to:

• Teach and minister faithfully according to Scripture and the doctrinal standards of the host church

• Exercise humility, teachability, and respect toward church leadership

• Avoid using Seminary coursework or credentials to exert improper influence or authority

• Uphold moral and ethical standards consistent with Christian ministry

Any moral failure, doctrinal deviation, or serious conflict arising in a church context must be reported promptly to the Seminary when it bears upon ministerial fitness.

5. Doctrinal Tension and Conscience Matters

If a student experiences doctrinal tension between Replum Seminary’s teachings and the convictions or practices of their local church, the student is expected to address such matters with wisdom and charity.

Appropriate responses may include:

• Private discussion with church leadership

• Consultation with Seminary faculty or advisors

• Prayerful discernment regarding the appropriateness of continued service in a particular role

Students must not engage in covert efforts to alter a church’s doctrine or practice under the guise of Seminary education.

6. Ministry Placement, Internship, and Field Education

For Seminary-approved ministry placements, internships, or field education assignments:

• Written approval from the host church may be required

• The Seminary may request periodic evaluations from church supervisors

• The Seminary reserves the right to withdraw approval if ministry contexts conflict with its doctrinal or ethical standards

7. Conflict Resolution

In cases of serious conflict between a student and a local church, Replum Seminary may, at its discretion:

• Provide pastoral counsel and mediation support

• Consult with church leadership, with the student’s knowledge

• Recommend suspension or modification of ministry involvement

The Seminary will seek peace, truth, and restoration, but will not adjudicate internal church disputes.

8. Accountability and Discipline

Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct.

Enrollment at Replum Seminary constitutes agreement to abide by this policy while serving in any local church context.

9. Acknowledgment

I have read and understand the Denominational and Local Church Relations Policy and agree to abide by its principles while enrolled at Replum Seminary.
