This letter is to establish our doctrinal views and emphasize our future ministry in Australia under the Association of Baptist World Evangelism (ABWE).

Concerning the Bible:

We believe that the scripture was written by God through inspired human authors and is therefore without error. It is profitable for rebuking, correcting, and training us in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

Concerning the True God:

We believe that there is one God who is the creator of all that has been created, and that, in unity, there are three persons within the godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 3:16-17).

Concerning Mankind:

We believe that the scripture teaches that mankind was created by God and in God’s image and that, by voluntary transgression, he fell from his state of innocence, in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners by nature and choice (Genesis 1:27; Romans 5:18-21).

Concerning Marriage and Sexuality:

We believe that the scripture teaches of the union of marriage as a covenant between a man and woman before God and that a Christian should therefore not embrace identities, desires, and behaviors that are contrary to this teaching (Genesis 2:24; Leviticus 20:13).

Concerning Salvation:

We believe that the scriptures teach that salvation is received only through the person of Jesus Christ and that no one apart from Him can be saved. We believe that a person must be saved in order to obtain eternal life in heaven and that the person who has accepted this salvation is justified and eternally secure (Acts 4:12).

Concerning the Church:

We believe that the scripture teaches that the church is the body of Christ and that it therefore constitutes all believers who have been saved by grace. we believe that the scripture identifies two specific offices in the church which include overseer, elder, or pastor as well as deacon, and that these positions of authority are to be given primarily to men in the church (1 Corinthians 12:27-31).

Concerning Baptism:

We believe that the scriptures teach that baptism is the immersion of a believer in water, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that it is a representation of the believer’s death to sin and his resurrection to a new life in Jesus Christ. It is not, however, enough to save a person. it is simply a product or display of a person’s salvation and not a substitute (1 Peter 3:21).

Concerning Future Events:

We believe that the scriptures foretell of the future coming of Christ and that this will be followed by the tribulation after which Christ will establish his millennial kingdom. Satan will then be cast into the lake of fire along with death, hell, and the unrighteous dead (Revelation 22:12-21).

Concerning Eternity:

We believe that the scriptures teach of a literal heaven and hell where the saved and unsaved spend eternity. the saved will spend eternity in full enjoyment of God’s presence, while the unsaved will be cast into everlasting, conscious punishment (John 5:24).

We, along with ABWE, are committed to sharing the true, unchanged Gospel of salvation with the Australian people and the rest of the world. We pray that our faith and dedication to this cause will help build and encourage the body of Christ and that we will prove to be a blessing to all those who choose to support us along the way.

In Christ,

Trenton Bruce and Hanna Mae Shields
