The End is in Sight for Losing Dani Strumm

Losing Dani Strumm

Yesterday was hectic for me

Before that, I spent the day working on the last chapter of Losing Dani Strumm. I have tried to take my time with this chapter and go over it repeatedly because I want it to be a perfect ending to a beautiful story.

The chapters in Losing Dani Strumm are approximately 5,000 words each. I finished about 1,500 for the last chapter. I hope I can finish the rest over the next few days. We are so close to the end. This will be my first science fiction novel that is not part of an ongoing series, so I have to be sure there are no loose ends.

For anyone who has ever written

You know the beginning of a story is smooth sailing. But then, the middle gets really difficult. Then, finally, the end can be challenging because you have to be sure you answered all the questions, concluded in grandeur, and rewarded your readers with taking the time to read the last 55,000 words (or more) of your novel.

Yesterday I had to spend most of my day picking up a friend who had just returned from Uganda, where he had a 100-year celebration for the Worldwide Anglican Church, where he is the Arch-bishop. After having lunch and dropping him off, I returned home to prepare for a class I teach on Wednesday nights.

So yesterday was a wash as far as writing goes. However, I like a break after a great writing session. Then I can return to writing and review everything I have done. In addition, the refreshed second pass allows me to tweak some conversations and environments.

So far, I absolutely love the ending. It puts everything into the proper perspective. However, I do not dare say too much. Personally, I'm not too fond of spoilers. In fact, I despise them.

I was speaking with my wife the other night

We were trying to find something to watch, and I mentioned Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, and she said she had never seen it. So I stopped there because I did not want to give away too much. One day she may watch it.

Today I will get back to it, read everything repeatedly, and try to get as much done as possible. It may be a struggle today and tomorrow, though, because my wife, who owns her own company, has to work those days. That means our 120-pound baby, Maxine, a Great Pyrenees-Shepherd mix, will want t spend the day with me, playing outside.

I know what you are thinking, and yes, she is spoiled

However, she is two years old, and we have had her since she was 6-weeks. She has always had walks through the woods, played in the yard, and had a lot of farm animals and stray cats to play with. This breed is a working dog and likes action, hard work, or play.

So my plan today is to take her for a great long walk through the woods as soon as it is light out. It is supposed to be about 50 degrees at sunrise and a high of 69 today. Not bad for November 10th in Northern Michigan. Afterward, I'll make her and my breakfast, and then I should be able to get a little work done before she wants to go outside to work.

The great news is only 3,500 more words until Losing Dani Strumm is completed. Then, I can prepare the ARCs (advanced reader's copy).
