The total time to make this delicious pie is about 1-hour. It takes 45 minutes to cook, the rest is prep time.

I first made this recipe about 20 years ago using some generic recipe I found on the package of something, I cannot remember. Over the years I changed ingredients and measurements until I got this recipe. Personally, speaking as a lover of chocolate, the darker the better, I believe this is by far the best Chocolate Silk Pie recipe I have ever had.

This pie is rich and delicious. Normally you get about 8 servings, sometimes more. I always take a whole piece, but it is rich, and some may only want half of a slice. A dollop of whipped cream on top or a very small scoop of vanilla ice cream really adds to the dessert.

Your List of Ingredients

  • 5 ounces of butter

  • 5 1/2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate

  • 8 Tbs. unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted

  • Dash of salt

  • 4 eggs

  • 7 ounces granulated sugar

  • 3 Tbs. Maple syrup

  • 3 heaping Tbs. of sour cream

  • Crushed graham crackers for the crust

Set-up

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees

  2. Crush graham crackers into a bowl with 4 Tbs. of melted unsalted butter

  3. Press mixture into a pie pan

Step 1: Let’s Get Started

Place the butter, chocolate, cocoa powder, and salt in a bowl over a pan of simmering water (double boiler) and allow to melt slowly, stirring it occasionally until well mixed.

Step 2: In a separate bowl

Beat the eggs and sugar together until light and well creamed, then add the Maple syrup and sour cream.

Step 3: Mix the two together

Adding the chocolate mixture to the egg and sugar mixture make sure to get all the chocolate with a spatula.

Once you have mixed it well, pour it into the crust.

Cooking

By now your oven should be at 300 degrees. Place the pie into oven for 40-45 minutes. During this time the pie will form a crust on the top.

After baking, remove the pie and place it on a baking rack for 45 minutes. The crust on top will crack.

Variations

When the pie has cooled completely (45 minutes) cover the pie with whipped cream and serve.

Or, you may serve with a sprig of mint, a dollop of raspberry preserves, or a small scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I have done all of these, and it is always a crowd pleaser!
